MediaCorp Subaru Impreza WRX Challenge 2012

MediaCorp Subaru Impreza WRX Challenge 2012

And the winner is..... 42 year old software engineer, Tholmas Gan Yu Shen!

Congratulations to the BEST HAND!
From Wikipedia
In 2012, to mark the 11th anniversary of the Challenge, an additional 11 seconds are added to the usual 5-minute evening break at 7 pm. Also, the last 11 standing contestants will be awarded a 'Wild Card', where they can choose from a list of items such as a drink or an extra break. Also, an additional break was provided at 4 pm on the Sunday and Monday of the competition due to the extreme afternoon heat.

For the 11th year straight since the first Subaru challenge (since 2008, other contestants from Asian countries are welcomed), the winner is a Singaporean!

I am pretty surprised, given that we hear so much of Singaporeans being the strawberry generation and the other Asians being more physically fit and able to withstand hard physical conditions.

This year, there were a lot of speculations that the winner would be a Vietnam, given that all 10 Vietnamese in this year contest remain in the contest a very looooong time.
And no doubts that the Vietnamese were renowned for physical endurance.

The Americans would remember. =)

I took part in the Subaru Challenge before, and I left on the 8th hour. HAHA! I have absolutely no doubt that I would not last 80hours, so I though may as well go have dinner with my friends and have a good night sleep....

I would have won if my car's contestants are all like them.

$7000 a month as a taxi driver

[Update: Straits Times has accused cabby of backtracking on $7000 claims - post here]

Sometimes I wonder why I studied so hard... PSLE, then Olevels, then Alevels, then degree.... just to wash test tubes...

Look at the boy and test tube closer.

“...got a basic degree, go wash test tube”

former A*STAR chairman, Mr Philip Yeo.

Whereas a dishwasher can earn $3,000 a month in Sakae Sushi....

“We would like to confirm that we are recruiting Singaporean or PR dishwashers for SGD 3000. Interested applicants and for enquiries, contact us via email: humanresource@sakaeholdings.com or call us at 6438 6629. We look forward to hearing from you.”

Sakae Sushi’s communications team

Now we have the cabby taxi driver featured in the Sunday Times (28th October 2012) proclaiming that he is earning $7000 a month!!

Mr Muhammad Hasnor Hashim works 6 days a week for at least eight hours a day.
According to the article, he works from 530am to 10pm, with time to drive his children to his in-law's home, have his meals, take a nap to recharge, and spend time with his family.

All that and he can earn $7,000 a month?

1. If that cabby - Mr. M. H. Hashim, 32, drives for only 8 hours and take home $200 per day after paying his $50 fuel and $100 rental, it means that he collects $43.75 per hour or $0.73 per minute. At that rate, he is occupied on the road with a paying passenger every minute of the 8 hours, with no waiting at taxi stands, airports or anywhere. Is that possible?. I'm sure you have seen long taxi queue at shopping malls, airports and empty taxis cruising around with no passengers. But Mr. M.H. Hashim is occupied in all the 8 hours with a paying passengers! How preposterous and incredible!
- Lim James

Seriously, I think next year IRAS gonna have a good time chasing taxi drivers liao....

Well, now degree holders wash test tubes, i wonder what would Ph.D holders do....

Singapore. A great place to make a living if you are a dishwasher or a taxi-driver.

Eat Free for a Year - Carl's Junior Promotion

Actually Singapore not bad wad.
Sakae Dishwasher earns $3000 a month, Taxi driver can earn $7000 a month. Then if you go queue this one, can eat Carl's Jr for a year.....

Red Bull Flugtag Singapore 2012

28th October 2012, a fine sunny Sunday.

Guess where we are now?

Ta-da! 1st Red Bull Flugtag 2012 in Singapore

Red Bull and Mini seems to have a great relationship.
Wings on a small car.

The Red Bull Flugtag is a Red Bull sponsored marketing event that challenges people to create man-powered flying machines....

From the Flugtag website...

ALL ABOUT FLUGTAG
Red Bull Flugtag challenges the brave and brainy to design, build and pilot home-made flying machines off a 6 metre high flight deck in hopes of soaring into the wild blue yonder…or more often, plunging into the waters below. Flugtag (pronounced floog-tag; noun), which means “flying day” in German, pushes the envelope of human-powered flight, but competitors need more than airtime to reach the podium. Teams are judged on three criteria: flight distance, creativity of the craft, and showmanship.
This criteria has inspired flying tacos, prehistoric pterodactyls, winnebagos with wings and even Snoopy and the gang to grace the Flugtag flight decks! Since the first Red Bull Flugtag took place in Vienna, Austria, in 1992, more than 100 Flugtags have been held around the globe, attracting up to 300,000 spectators for a single event.

Sand sculpture...

Some dragonfly machine. It looks stupid, but it won the Longest Flight Distance

Ebisu Muscats (恵比寿マスカッツ) is a Japanese idol group comprised of both gravure idols and AV stars, without a fixed line-up. Their popularity comes from their TV variety show Onegai! Muscat. They released their first single, "Banana Mango High School / 12 no 34 de Naite with Namida Yonshimai", in 2010 which reached #8 on the Oricon charts.

The group also features a unit named Black Muscats with performed alongside with the main group. In March 2012 Black Muscats dissolved and two members officially joined Ebisu Muscats

Google Awesome Job Benefits

[Stay tuned for Google vs Facebook Employees Comparison]
[Here is Facebook's 1 billion users milestone]

Yes, thats a Star Wars Trooper guarding the "Evil Empire"

Google is well known for its employees perks. Google wants to create the best working environment possible to attract the best talents for the company.
The Googleplex (HQ of Google) wants you to stay there forever....

- Free on-site hair cut.

Engineers.

- On-site Laundry facilities as well as dry-cleaning services. You can see Googlers going to work with a big bag of dirty clothes to do their laundry at the Googleplex.

- Exercising and healthy living. Well-equipped gyms for all, and swimming pools with current. Swimming pools are narrow with electric water pumps creating a strong current that flows in one direction. Googlers swim against the current, staying in place within these small pools. And there are lifeguards on duty to keep everyone safe.

Yes, even rock climbing.

- To relieve stress, there is a Google subsidized massage program. Googlers can pay a small amount for a licensed therapist's massage in a private room. Fun Fact- Google's massage rooms and bathrooms are some rare areas in the Googleplex that have opaque walls.

I'm pretty sure there is no "happy ending" for these massages.

- There are so many leisure activities in Googleplex to relieve stress. There are foosball (table soccer), billiards, ping-pong (table tennis) and video games all around Googleplex for Googlers to play.

How is this supposed to be played?

- And if healthy living does not prevent you from being sick, Google's comprehensive healthcare plans includes on-site medical staff

Googleplex offices are designed to be unlike typical corporate office. There are large computer screens are lobbies that display search term in real time. Lava lamps everyhwere and enormous whiteboards filled with ideas and jokes.

Glass walls are used to divide work areas so that noises are kept out, but sunlight can be filtered in. Each glass enclosure are surrounded by a tent-like roof of lighting and sprinkler system. Googlers on the same project work together in the same glass enclosure. Many of them sits on large yoga balls, rather than the typical office chairs.

Food is a great benefit in Google. All meals are free at Google. Employees are never more than 150 feet away from any well-stocked pantry.

There are many cafes through the complex, with stations offering different kinds of cuisine.
There are ethnic foods from all over the world, from sushi, chinese food, vegetarian dishes. Fresh organic and healthy meals are promoted.
Google serves up more than 200 recipes in their cafes every day.

In Google, everyone knows of the Google 15.
It refers to the extra 15 pounds every new Googler put on once they start working at the Googleplex.

they even have "guest chef"!

Last but not least, the most famous benefit of working at Google is the 20 percent time program. Google encourages all Googlers to use up to 20 percent of their work week at Google to pursue their own special projects.

For every 5days week, employees can take 1 day to work on a project unrelated to their normal workload. Not only is this good for individual's morale and interests, Google benefits massively as many of their products in Google Labs started out as pet projects in the 20 percent time program, including Gmail, Google News, Google Talk, Orkut, Google Sky, Google Moderator... etc etc.

I know you guys are itchy to apply.
