Straits Times online, my default homepage, has finally done what I have long suspected since it started its registration drive some months ago.
It is revamping and charging people for access to a more "beefed-up edition", which makes me wonder why the existing online version doesn't contain the full version of the print edition in the first place.
hold the features and extra stuff, then release it together with an increase in price (From $0 to $15 per mth), hence justifying your increase in price.
hmm, in mathematical term, is it not an infinite % increase in price, since the starting price is $0?
This reminds me of years ago, when MacDonald quietly "revamped" the Value meals.
It introduced a range of Winnie the Pooh plush toys to be purchased with a Value meal, meaning that the Value Meal costs more with the bears. After the Winnie promotion ended, the price of the Value meal declined, but not to the lower original price.
Hmmm.......
And the size of the drinks and french fries had been quietly reduced after a similar promotion.
oh well, as mrbrown has put it, the real news is still available free, on the net.
"The world of the Internet has changed the way we consume news and history."
.......
"So as you can see, there is a lot of free stuff online for you to read, especially on Singapore. This Net generation will probably be responsible for documenting Singapore life like it has never been documented before."
Read his article here at Today, which by the way, is still free online or offline.

Sigh, I guess I will migrate to www.asiaone.com.sg for free online local news, once Straits Times become a paid-access-only site.
Asiaone is still SPH-owned, so it'll probably be going the way of Straits Times soon, but oh well, what to do, being the
Actually, my home does subscribe to the print edition of Straits Times so I guess i'll be saving a lot of electricity soon.

Since I'm on the topic of the our National Newspaper, i think there is nothing as Anti-StraitsTimes as the BigO.
Surprised? well, I was.
The online version of a rock magazine from Asia happens to be a red hot rebel website, from discussing gigs and musics to criticising the policies of USA, europe. There is plenty of anti-Bush stuff around, just check out the right side of the home page.
There is a section "Reformasi", monitoring Malaysia.
And of course, a "won't get fooled again [till the next boo-boo]" section lambasting the PAP.
won't get fooled again [till the next boo-boo]. how appropriately named. heh.
i really like this poster saluting Straits Times. :P

Paris Hilton, one of my favourite blonde (truly deserving her blonde hair), has been a victim again!
Her T-mobile Sidekick II (a PDA that reads email) was hacked and her pictures and contact information from her it mobile device was released on the internet.
cool.
Hilton Apologises to Celebrity Pals
Hordes of celebrities, including Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Anna Kournikova and Ashley Olsen received hundreds of calls after Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick was recently hacked.
And yes, there is even a domain website (www.paris-hacked.com) collecting all the information from the hacked device and, all the collected responses from emailing/calling the contact numbers of her celebrity pals. u can hear anna kournikova's recorded response when one of the prankster called her.
and yes, u get to see some not-so-family-friendly photos of her topless, and her doing a lesbian kiss with her female friend.
most of her celebrity friends are so gonna change their mobile numbers, now that their numbers are published.
sigh, i hate u paris, now I have to change my mobile number.
