1st tear.

A girl asked a guy if he thought she was pretty, he said...no.
She asked him if he would want to be with her forever....and he said no.
She then asked him if she were to leave would he cry? and once again he replied with a no.
She had heard enough.

As she walked away, tears streaming down her face the boy grabbed her arm and said....You're not pretty- you're beautiful. I dont want to be with you forever. I NEED to be with you forever, and I wouldnt cry if you walked away...I'd die... I like u because of who u r to me.

新春2006

People who read my wow2005 post mistakenly interprete it as a "happy post".
Maybe I ought to be more direct, and less sarcastic.

yes yes, it was a post abt happy events in 2005. BUT 2005 is gone!
and 2006 sucks. and whooo, 11 more months to go.

wow 2005.

my team came in first for January 2006 contest. (i was appointed leader due to my 2005 results)

out of all the list of awards/incentives for 2005, i won all but 1 of it. And the only one that I did not win, the deadline is not over yet.

i'm reaching an equilibrium with my love life.

i'm actually head-hunted by 2 different companies.

i hv a nice car.

i hv lots of time to spend with my friends.

i hv lots of time to blog.

i hv a best friend who has lots of time to spend with me (he just broke up)

i'm building good relationships with my secretary, my colleages (considering that i'm seldom in office)

bye 2005.

it was a lovely day

so here i was.
happy in the morning. coz today was full of fun stuff. plus all the good news in the newspaper, just like 4 years ago!! i wonder why.

sometimes people, u may not feel it, but you are
insulting me.
wasting my time.
indirectly mocking me.

Welfare Part 2

with regards to the last entry about social welfare, apparently quite a number of people are against welfare (welfare dependency).

my colleague expressed sympathy for the early death of her husband, and with no insurance to provide them, but the sympathy stopped there. she was furious that the the wife did not consider downgrading to a smaller flat (she suggested 1 room-flat, where govt rental for the needy amounts to a few tens of dollars a month), and still dare to request for waiver of interest from HDB simply because she does not want to suffer a monetary loss from selling it now (at a lower price).

"Please now, now no money to eat, still want to care abt loss of money"

when highlighted that 6 children squeezing in a small flat is gonna be messy, she brought up her own history, having lived in a very small space with her family during her childhood days.

"You're in such a situation, so you had better endure hardship, better than spending $900 plus a mth just for the comfort of a bigger flat. Isn't it better to spend the money on food and education etc"

can't say i disagree with her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my own unscientific survey reveals that many are against more extensive social welfare. I'm not sure whether its a good thing (workfare; endure hardship rather than depends on govt), or a bad thing (some people are at the bottem of the heap though no fault of their own).
given that most of my respondants are either quite well-off, or university graduates holding jobs, i guess we are not really well-placed to make a good judgement.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm supposed to make my resolutions now, especially after receiving my 2006 awards from my company, and declared my goals (career) of 2006.

but as of now, 2006 is soooo bad, i just wanna sit here and wait for 2007.

a friend expressed hopes that with the Lunar New Year, things would look up in the Year of Dogs.

I killed every single ounce of his hopes when I told him that in astrology, Monkeys are gonna have it bad in the 2006 Year of Dog.

Excellent.

Welfare Part 1

After spending so much time in hospitals and paying bills, I changed my perspective on the first insurance that you should buy.

#1 - Medical / Hospital Insurance

$2000 for a 30 minutes operation??? Hello medical industry, you're one expensive shit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i have taken a turn for the nurse Posted by Picasa
Since I have been spending so much time in hospitals, i figured that if i don't get another insurance planner as a Significant Other, I may as well get a nurse/doctor girlfriend.
If fact, I can totally imagine this conversation..
cherub: oei, tomorrow I'm going your hospital again, I come meet u for lunch ok?
Significant Other: eh, i wanna eat lunch with my colleague can? I have been seeing u for the past week, i need some time off for my colleague leh....
Actually, I can totally imagine her too.
her name is nurse heartfelt. I'm serious! Posted by Picasa
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

channel U showing a houswife who can't afford her flat after the death of her husband.
the husband cancelled his insurance policy AFTER he got a stroke and had financial difficulties, hence dying without the payouts that would have pay for his flat.

this is damn sad, after getting a stroke, all the more u should continue the policy. sigh. u know, the government should help out pple like him, to pay for basic insurance for them when there is a dire financial situation.

Better than letting the widow suffering, being unable to feed her family properly, let alone meeting the monthly payment. And she can't sell the flat, coz its almost negative equity as her husband bought the flat for $220,000 and its only worth $170,000 now.

Negative Equity is such a bane.

And from what I heard, the HDB has not been very helpful to her cause, refusing to waive off the interest payment.

Sigh. sometimes social welfare (as opposed to the PAPpolitically correct "workfare") is really not an evil force.

I'm extremely proud of my friends and clients, who are really concerned about my singlehood. :)

Friday knows that I have a soft spot for malay babes, and wanted to intro me some malay friends of hers.
she asked me to go through her friendster and check out her malay friends, but too bad, i hate friendster. the site is super slow and i think its weird knowing girls via there.

Recently, on the SAME DAY, 2 friends of mine, Minyii and Swiss Miss pledged to introduce a specific colleague of theirs.
Minyii has a witty colleague (witty is a very appreciated trait), while Swiss Miss knows a malay babe.

HAHAHAHA.

and not so long ago, Steff matchmade me with a chio blogger.
and even neofik attempted to intro a girl that he felt would be suitable for me.

WAhhhh...how come so many pple trying to matchmake me?

eh, dunno to be happy or sad man. =(
Aye, but I'm NOT complaining!!
THANKS FOLKS!!! hahahahhahahahahahahaha

For Those who Eat and Cannot Cook.

cherub:

Okok the interview is started.
Will you two pledge to tell the truth and only the truth? everything you say can be, and will be used against you two.

Madagascar:

eurps.

Oceanna:

hmm.....

cherub:

haha. okok seriously, tell me more about you two?

Madagascar:

i, Madagascar, ic number blah blah blah...

Oceanna:

cherub:

okok seriously, how are you two linked?
as in, how did your friendship start

Oceanna:

we went to the same mental institute
she was in the next room. we got along famously...

Madagascar:

suddenly it all made sense.
i swear i could have almost forgotten that.

cherub:

i see. so i bet you two had a great cuisine life in the institute?
lol.

Madagascar:

well, we drove the teachers nuts in between

Oceanna:

yeah..oeanuts, ground nuts, brazil nuts.. hazelnuts
=)

Madagascar:

thanks oceanna

cherub:

aha. so how did this blog get started?

Madagascar:

ahhh...

Oceanna:

was madagascar's great idea

Madagascar:

cos of the hopeless women out there... (my sister included)
who cannot cook to save their lives

not something you see in a desert everyday. Posted by Picasa

cherub:

Oooo! so this is dedicated, to almost every single girl I know.....

Madagascar:

i mean how hard is it to cook... its harder to clean!!!

Oceanna:

!!!!!
I was thinking more of the poor uni students...have ing to live on pizza week in week out

Madagascar:

haha... so we made it kinda simple and approachable for most ppl to cook.
yeah, uni students also...

Oceanna:

hey..it's a long standing rule: those who eat...must clean!

cherub:

lol. u two sound like u lived in hostel before

Oceanna:

now you're getting warmer...=)
we just didn't live next to each other...=)

Madagascar:

we just happened to sit next to each other a lot a lot...
spent 2 yrs in classrooms separated by a wall before that

Oceanna:

yeah...=)

cherub:

did u two cook in hostel then?

Madagascar:

erms... me yes. she yes.

Oceanna:

also hostellite..but not in singapore

cherub:

Ah!!! foreign experience. must be tons of microwave macaroni and cheese, and ramen.

Oceanna:

=) hey it's not all mac and cheese k

Madagascar:

ahhahaha... she's better than that k

Oceanna:

we uni students can COOK!!!
and give parties...=)

Madagascar:

hahaha... too bad chris not around.
Oceanna has a great housemate (we’ll nick him Chris here)... he can cook even better than us.

Oceanna:

yeah boy....we'll make one mean team

cherub:

eh, share with me one of ur uni cooking experience leh

Oceanna:

haha...ok..
here's one.
didn't happen to me...but to my housemate at that time.
she wanted to make hamburgers so she did the prep...got out the patty, put the oil in the pan and slapped the patty in.
then she looked up curiously as asked me: why sin't it sizzling??

I looked..and she did not have her fire one!

Madagascar:

HAHA
classic moment

Oceanna:

either that or the time chris set fire to the stove and wanted to pour water in the burning OIL

Madagascar:

omg... he's got a masters and can't sort that out? hahahahhaha

Oceanna:

ehh..he's a PhD now...mwhaha

cherub:

haha. so i see, the more u study, the less cooking u shld do

Madagascar:

HAHA.
the more you study -> the more money you maybe have?
the more money you have => can hire own chef?

Oceanna:

haha...no..the more you study, the more money you have to renovate your kitchen!
hire me!!

Madagascar:

hire chef need to cook meh?
hahah

cherub:

noted: although Oceanna, my personal chef must cook naked.

Madagascar:

hahaha... nigella lawson!

Oceanna:

hmm...jamie oliver...
he can be my naked chef anyday!

Madagascar:

hahahahha
nvm that... i don't want a naked chef

cherub:

oceanna or madagascar can be my naked chef one day

Madagascar:

never trust a skinny chef... so there you have one that is kinda ahem... not so wonderful prancing around with an apron... eurghs!

Oceanna:

No worries....will get you a special apron as well..

i could be the next naked chef. Posted by Picasa

Madagascar:

yah yah yah... you'd wish
i'm gonna publish the one abt how to cook rice without the rice cooker!

Oceanna:

haha! good one!

cherub:

WAh. haha. pls publish that soon, it will help a lot of singapore students studying overseas.

Oceanna:

you'll save all the students going overseas from lugging that huge cooker around

cherub:

Ok so why do u girls decided to publish a cooking blog?

Oceanna:

b'cos of Madagascar...=)

Madagascar:

b'cos of nigella the goddess of the kitchen

cherub:

who is nigella, btw

Madagascar:

hahaha
nigella lawson

Oceanna:

you don't know nigella?!?!?
Where have you been man???!?

cherub:

eh, of course i dunno nigella lawson
but i do know pamela anderson

Madagascar:

the hot brit chick who cooks...... with that seductive look.

Oceanna:

she's only the hottest cook around...=)
ohh .yeah..

cherub:

REALLY? where's her pic

Oceanna:

and with that accent...=)
google her name lah

I cook too, you know. Posted by Picasa

cherub:

aiyah not blonde. nvm.
how did u get inspired by her

Madagascar:

hahhaha... no need to be blondie lah
orh... saw her cooking show.
then i was wondering in my head.
wah... everything she cooks so easy also got her own show
sure lah. she can do the accent and seductive look.
then i was wondering in my head, how often can i cook like her... with the kind of ingredients i can get around here of course.

then i realised actually i have been compiling lots of my own recipes at home
why not take it out, publicly display my affection for food?

and my sister can stop bugging me on how to cook finally?
so many of my friends all cannot cook... and i don't understand why.

Oceanna:

haha....gives a whole new meaning to public displays of affections...=)

Madagascar:

so the best way to help them was... just write down the idiot-proofed recipes online!

Oceanna:

yeah!!
share the joy man, share the joy

cherub:

this is going to take a lot of editing. no sleep tonite.
hahaha.
Eh, how did u get Oceanna involved then?
did u kidnap her or soemthing

Madagascar:

orhhh...
easy enough.
kidnap no lah

Oceanna:

i went willingly...
hahah!

cherub:

haha what makes u join Madagascar, Oceanna?

Oceanna:

just for the fun of it....and I pitied all the poor students out there who have to survive on their own...=)

cherub:

what is the easiest dish to do, from ur blog?

Oceanna:

you tell us...it's all rather easy for us...=)

Madagascar:

hahah... yeah
we can manage most of it easily anytime
its just a matter of prep time

Oceanna:

yep...and then there's washup time
yuck

Madagascar:

tell me abt it
no wonder they need so many helpers in kitchen

cherub:

lol. so wats the fastest dish, including washup and prep time

Oceanna:

=_
hmm....

Madagascar:

hmmm
zero washing?
baked salmon

Oceanna:

yeah....eat and throw away

Madagascar:

throw away the aluminium foil straight after cooking
close to zero prep time

Oceanna:

goes for the chicken wings too

Madagascar:

yah manz

cherub:

haha.
so whats the MUST DO dish u would recommend to readers.

Oceanna:

think you're getting the hang of this jounalism thing Cherub...=_
I vote for the peaches and cream dessert...=)

Madagascar:

i'd go for tomato salsa
its healthy and matches most fried stuff you cook at home
my aunt had a great party with the sauce!

Oceanna:

haha...tastes good on bread and with tortilla chips!

Madagascar:

the aunties all loved it
zigackly!
no cooking required. just tossing!

Oceanna:

yeah!
and the peaches and cream one is just whipping and pouring..
some dexterity with the can opener is needed though

cherub:

lol.
Okok. whats one advice u would give to someone who knows nuts abt cooking...and is abt to embark on that journey..

R u a lousy cook as well? Posted by Picasa

Madagascar:

hahahha
hmm
start learning how to marinate first.

Oceanna:

yeah....

Madagascar:

marinations save a good deal of effort on cooking prep

Oceanna:

will be good to learn basics too...like what is a tablespoon and teaspoon

cherub:

wah, tablespoon is bigger hor!

Madagascar:

if you can marinate, can cook.

Oceanna:

you'd be surprised..

Madagascar:

hahah
true.

Oceanna:

oh yeah..and how to turn the stove on

Madagascar:

the farnee aussies

Oceanna:

man..the aussies just barbecue...

Madagascar:

just like the south africans

Oceanna:

Personally, i think pasta is the easiest
until you over cook the damn things

Madagascar:

hahah...
i think cooking needs great creativity

Oceanna:

agreed

Madagascar:

but even if you can't, just learn from books.
i started with brocolli in dark soya sauce lhe
nobody likes to eat my food initially
but you got to keep trying

now i cook for a household of 30 every CNY
harhar

Oceanna:

way to go man!!
yeah...start simple, build up, imagine different lavours together,

Madagascar:

yeah
what you can imagine, you can cook. that's what i believe in.

Oceanna:

when someone points out a spice/flavour, take note and see if it can go with anything else...=)
yeah!
cook from the heart..and stomach of course

Madagascar:

i think those crummy cooking shows that tell ppl to cook with their heart has a point
you would tend to reaaaaally do better when you are in the right mindset

Oceanna:

yep..or not too hungry

cherub:

thats a looong list of advice for our readers out there

Oceanna:

heh
it's only advice....they can pick what they want to listen to..=)

cherub:

lol.
Any last word?
*cue*

Madagascar:

haha...
never trust a skinny chef!

then u can trust me lor... Posted by Picasa

TV dramas

i knew that this was gonna be a bad day when I woke up with a weird dream.

that my girlfriend, went through a lot of hassles to book a nice romantic room to enjoy a little intimacy with me.

to get away from all the stress.
to get away from everyone.

it was such a sweet dream.

since when was I Cherub's gf?(credits of foto here) Posted by Picasa

until i realised the "girlfriend" is Fann Wong.
wah liew i must be watching too much TV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the Fann Wong show, the 3 Stars, Fortune "Fu", Prosperity "Lu", and Longevity "Shou".
I just realised how much I'm like mr Lu.
anyway, this show is co-produced with HK, and the quality of the drama is so much better than most local shows. Beside, there are a few HK celebrities acting, and i must say, their acting skills are very credible. I think most Singapore celebrities can't act (nor perform) to save their skins.
Having watched 1 episode of "StarIdol", I think we are doomed to forever-bad-entertainment.
SuperHosts can't do much better either. I have been watching them for weeks, due to my not-so-secret dream of becoming a variety show host; no thanks to watching too much Taiwan variety shows.
Seriously, all these contestants..... they are really that bad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

cherub: eh, ask u huh
Ximen, Wu Da, is what classic story?

unnamed-to-protect-his-identity: the 武松打虎 one la (Wu Song vs the Tiger)

unnamed: Wu Da is Wu Song bro
cherub: ooo...wu da's wife slept with Ximen ah
unnamed: yah.

cherub: i watching it now, man, the wife damn easy to sleep with
easiest way to bed a girl, pull her clothes a bit, tell her to grant u your wish, then she reply "wat if we are seen by people"
then can liao.

nxt time I must try it

unnamed: send me leh. this type is classic. i want!
cherub: ????
its on channel 8 lah.
unnamed: oh.

cherub: wait a minute. YOU TOT ITS PORN RIGHT?
unnamed: err..yah.

Resolution Part 1

someone called me up to fix an appointment for insurance.
she said she intend to fix her 2nd resolution for 2006, that is, to get comprehensive coverage for herself.

wow. thats a very good resolution.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
speaking of resolution, my current resolution at this moment is that I will get my 2007 resolution done before 2007 has arrived.
yes, my 2006 resolution is still, ahem, under construction.
One of it is definitely catch up on at least 20% of wikipedia.
Did I tell u guys how great wikipedia is?
And to read as much as possible abt my fav topic, such as from Slate Magazine: Everyday Economics.
To unpack my saxophone from the case and to really start practising it.
To learn Salsa dancing soon (NEOFIK! Hurry hurry!)
To refurnish and rebuild my room.
To learn magic tricks. (i believe I have this resolution since 1992)
To learn cooking. (I just found a cooking blogsite, I will be doing a blog review of it, PLUS an EXCLUSIVE interview with the blogger involved soon. Haha. watch out for it)
To settle down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Readers, what's your resolution? Tell me about it. =)

Charity is for the Needy

i know it must be fashionable to curse and baulk at charities.

one of my friends proudly proclaimed, "i have never donated to any charity. i don't care what stunts they do, i refuse to donate to them."

sadly how one NKF has tainted all boats, justified all donation-refusals.

yes, I have donated to NKF before.
no, I have never regretted it.

it was a logical and rational donation. I didn't donate because the stunts were fabulous. I didn't donate because Durai came out and pleaded for funds. I didn't donate because I have excess money.

I donate simply because someone out there needs it.

Of course I was disenchanted when I learnt about the $600,000 pay.
Of course I was embittered when I learnt just 10% of the funds goes to current patients.

but that wasn't the fault of the needy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made a decision to donate to Ren Chi hospital.
I watched the charity show last night, and as far as my memory can bring me, I have never seen the monk, Venerable Shi Ming Yi tear before for sympathy.
Throughout the past few years of charity, he has always plead for donations in a composed manner, never dropping a tear.
but yesterday was a despondent situation. the calls were trickling painfully slow, by the time it was time for Venerable's stunt, it barely crossed 100,000 calls.
And the weather was not helping. For safety reasons, he could only conducted part 1 of his stunts, part 2 had to be cancelled due to heavy rains and wind.
and then he made his calm plead for us not to taint all charities because of 1 incident.
not to withdraw donation because the needy still needs help.
and not to condemned the celebrities, the producers of the show (he revealed that the producers were condemned and scolded) just because.....
and then he broke down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

about 90 minutes later, when they were closing the show, i can see the joy in his eyes when he learnt that the total amount raised was $6.8m. (their official target was $5m, but I do believe that they need at least $7m for annual operation costs)

the joy of a man not from huge bonus tied to funds raised.

the joy of a man that those under his care would not be left abandoned.

Yeh, for those who had enjoyed a good 2005, pls donate would ya?

千军万马

千军万马 (Thousands of soldiers and tens of thousands of horses)

Cherub: I just realised something. How can it be 千军万马 ? Thousands of soldiers and tens of thousands of horses?
how can the soldiers be less than the horses? how to control the horses?
What, you think like "Narnia" ah! Talking horses march to battles on their own ah!

Absolut: Thats because 万军千马 sounds bad. 千军万马 sounds much nicer.

Cherub: It only sounds weird because we are so used to 千军万马 liao. If it has been all the way, we would be used to it.

Absolut: Then 万马 probably means calvary troops. HORSE-MOUNTED TROOPS. thats why.

Cherub: Even if it refers to calvary troops, most armies possess more infantry than calvary.
so still logically wrong...

Absolut: Negative. The mongolian army, a superior army at that time, was dominant due to calvary troops. 千军万马 would be perfectly ideal for that army.

Cherub: Dude, its a CHINESE saying. NOT mongolian saying.

Absolut: the mongolian army must had routed the chinese army before. Surely some smart guys have seen the mongolian army and came out with this saying.

Cherub: ahh..

Absolut: moral of the story. You wan to talk cock, I'm always here to pair with you.
