the Straits Times depresses me.
every single mainstream media (MSM) depresses me.
you would not believe the disparity of information from the MSM and the internet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the most depressing is that many educated people, from our premier Top 20 World-class university somemore......
dare not vote for opposition because of fear.
because of serial number on the ballot.
educated but yet they believe the votes can be traced.
and they believe they will be punished if they voted for opposition
[in case u're still wondering, no, the PAP can't trace ur votes. the serial number can't trace u, its only there to trace a precinct. they want to identify area of votes for statistical purposes.
when all the votes are cast, they are taken and counted in front of representatives from all contesting parties. once all votes are counted, they are put back in the ballot box and sealed with seals from both parties.
they are then locked up for 6mths.
within these 6mths, if there are no other disputes, they will be taken out and inspected by representives of all parties to ensure that both seals are intact.
Once satisfied that the ballots are all untouched, they will be transported to Tuas to be incinerated.
and i know of at least 1 civil servant who is well known for supporting opposition member, so far, he is still rising high in his job, so ya, no problem.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No fear in Singapore, my high and mighty ass.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And then there are people, who have not bothered to gone to a single rally, nor to read abt the party, nor to try and find other sources of information
and conclude readily, most subconsciously from the MSM i bet my ass, that the PAP is high and mighty.
and refuses to read any extra information that i offered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
good news is, every day, someone will get very disgruntled and tell me how annoyed they are at this election.
perhaps, i told them, u can join the opposition.
You take any PAP member, and I can't tell whether they are in it for the money or for the love of their country. I'm not saying they don't love the country, i just can't tell whether they join politics coz of money or patriotic reasons.
for Opposition members, its definitely not coz of money. u don't get much. u get sued every now and then. ur family probably get sleepless nights. more than 1 opposition member has his/her mum kneeling down to beg him/her to get out of politics.
Seriously, why do u think they join Opposition for?
Fame and Glory ah?

not everyone join in politics for serving pple:they just wanna bring the other party down.
or they may become another durai: came with an objective, but when money & fame kick in, they stray from their original ideas.
that's humans nowadays ;)
if u were to ask me?
both also dun support.
it's like choosing the best among the worst. but at least, i know i dun have to worry too much when the right party is chosen etc.
You got this info from http://www.wp.sg/news/hammer_online/05_vote_secret.htm right?
According to this, the serial number DOES allow for tracing of individuals, but there're no opportunity, and resources to track it down.
Have been told however that during counting, the counters check the votes against a list of selected voters whose votes are to be monitored. These selected ppl are high-fliers in the civil service, i.e. AOs.
Not sure how true this is, but even if it is, chances are we're too puny and insignificant for them to take the effort to track us down anyway so it doesn't matter. Our vote is secret. :)

Although some people may choose to be in the Opposition for various reasons, it is generally agreed upon that opposition people really need to pay a high price for being in the camp outside of our incumbent Men-in-White.
I am never afraid to vote for the opposition, provided thay managed to convince me that they are competent.
There are people I know who has never been brave enough to own up that they voted for the opposition (years after the election) although we know he does, given his attitude and disposition.
It sometimes make me wonder if we need for this generation of PAP-fearing people to die off before we can have GENUINE elections.
Yes. The upgrading carrots that the Men-in-White has dangled in front of Hougang and Potong Pasir voters has upset me and angered me more than anything else.
This is despite the fact that I am living in an upgraded precinct. Am I an ungrateful soul?
Well, 'someone up there' is likely to think so.
Though I dun really care about that. I just perceive injustice. That's all.
Sadly, I have yet the chance to vote despite being so excited at seeing so many new faces on the opposition side in 2006.
Can someone come to campaign for the GRC that I am living in? ^^
politics excite me.
i am just too depressed over the lack of democracy in singapore...
the 1-party stronghold is too strong, and i agree with u, we need the older generation to "die off"...
:p
