Here is the price comparision (Singapore Dollars) between iPad mini vs iPad 2 and the newest iPad with retina display.

Compare the specifications and details here.

For $80 bucks more, you can buy a bigger iPad2.... but then I guess iPad Mini has better processer, lighter weight etc etc.

The key thing is, the main competitor for iPad Mini is not its own products, its Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7.

Although both Kindle and Nexus are definitely not as powerful and impressive as the iPad Mini, their prices are much more impressive.
Both Google and Amazon rolled out their 7 inch tablets for the price-conscious consumers, and they probably don't make money on these tablets in the hope of making money later from users.
Google earns from their App store and mobile adverts, Amazon earns from users buying stuff off Amazon.com.

The comparison above is in USD, and is in US pricing. I understand that the Google Nexus 7, which retails for USD$249 (which converts to SGD$305)  in USA is selling in Singapore at a slightly higher price of SGD $399 in SGD.

Many consumers who go for value-for-money would probably choose the Nexus 7 or other cheaper tablets.

But for those who do not mind paying a premium for good specs and design, would have no problem forking out the extra cash for the iPad Mini (or the latest iPad or iPad2....)

in terms of spec, ipad mini may not be better than nexus 7's quad core tegra or kindle's TI OMAP. The only thing it definitely wins out is its size, since it's slightly larger than 7 inches.
and in terms of pixel density, nexus 7 is actually better...
And I am quite sure nexus 7 does not have expandable memory...

wow. thats good to know.

I am sure many of us are actually under the (wrong) impression that ipad's display should be better.

Nexus 7 sounds more and more like a good buy, I only wish they sell it at usd pricing here (SGD $305) rather than the nonsense price of SGD $399.
