Uniquely Singapore- Where a strike is not a strike

[Latest Update of 2nd day- Ministers says STRIKE]
{Previous post on Chinese bus driver Strike]

Uniquely Singapore!

-The only country in the world where union workers cannot "refuse to go to work" (strike) but the non-union workers can.

- The only country in the world where a "Strike" is not a "strike" but a "refuse to go work". Maybe next time they can think of better names like "Sit-In", "Unhappy Gathering", maybe atas a bit, call it "The National Bus Driver Conversation"
I heard that the Bowling Association of Singapore is going to rename their "Strike" as "Refusal To Go Work"....... not very catchy.

- The only country where even a Strike has been outsourced to Foreign Talents.

- The only country in the world where police cannot catch an old terrorist (Mas Selamat) but got time to attend "Refusal to go work" event. Sometime they also help to videotape Speakers' Corner.

- The only country where a strike.. sorry sorry, "refusal to go to work" event, and all the trade unions refuses to take credit for it. (most trade unions in normal countries would boast of such events)

NTUC's denial -
"NTUC director of the Unit for Contract and Casual Workers (UCCW), Mr Zainal Sapari criticised the workers for not adhering proper procedures and acting without the knowledge of the National Transport Workers' Union."
NTWU's legal position -
"The National Transport Workers' Union (NTWU) has issued a press statement on the SMRT bus drivers' dispute. The union said that it does not have the legal mandate to represent the PRC bus workers of SMRT as they are not union members."

Ah. The irony!

- The only country where our National Trade Union Congress operates supermarkets, pharmacy, childcare centre, insurance, bowling centres.... but dont know when workers strike....
